Basic copper carbonate appears as a fine green or bluish-green powder. It is insoluble in water and cold alcohol but decomposes in hot water or when exposed to acids.
Basic copper carbonate is widely used as a precursor or raw material for producing other copper compounds. In agriculture, it serves as an effective fungicide and algicide. It is also an important pigment (often called verditer) in paints, cosmetics, and for coloring glass and ceramics. Additionally, it finds use in pyrotechnics to produce blue and green flames and as a feed additive for animals to prevent copper deficiency.
